The Tyee Grill in Tumwater had me perform tableside magic for their Easter brunch. It was a hit, and they immediately re-booked for Mother’s Day.
Here’s the story: in the morning a server told me that a party made a reservation and specifically requested that I NOT perform for their table. That’s fine; I figured it was some religious group. Later Danni, the manager, tells me that the client is an elderly lady and their family came in for brunch on Easter. Everyone had enjoyed my magic, but she didn’t want me performing for their table because – and I am not making this up – the people at her table were laughing and clapping so much that she wasn’t able to talk to her friend!
Huh? You can’t please everyone! Not wanting to rock the boat, I heartily agreed not to perform magic for this group.
Said group arrived. I was informed by the hostess and had plenty of tables in the dining room area to keep me busy without going into the restaurant where they were. A half hour later Danni comes up and says, “Well, they changed their mind and would like to see some magic.” We both laughed ourselves silly over this turn of events. I performed for them, and they had a great time.
(Well, most of them did. One older lady didn’t crack a smile. And she wasn’t able to carry on a conversation while I performed. This may not have been her best Mother’s Day ever…)
